CHALCEDONY - Crypocrystalline Quartz

Chalcedony is formed by the deposition of fine silica built up over a long period of time.  The color is caused by various impurities that were present while the material was forming.  In particular the blue form of this deposited silica is called "Chalcedony".  Chalcedony by its nature is a translucent material.

We don't generally stock cabbing rough, but this caught our eye! The color is a beautiful blue to lavendar-blue depending on the lighting. The material appears very "clean" and should make some wonderful cabs or carvings of fine glowing translucent color. Some of the material looks like it could be faceted as well - although the finished gem would of course be translucent.
