CORUNDUM - RUBY

Ruby is a hard, durable gem that is the "red" color of Corundum caused by the presence of Chromium. The color can range from pinkish-Red, Red, deep-Red, to purplish-Red. (Some argue that "pink sapphire" is also "ruby" based on the Chromium content in these stones.)

When was the last time you saw nice, facetable Ruby rough?!? This material has become increasingly difficult and expensive to obtain, so we are pleased to offer the limited selection below.  Rubies are dichroic, and require proper orientation in cutting  to show the best color.

All the rubies below are natural stones.  CLiCK on the descriptions below to see a picture of the stone.  The larger ones listed have been extremely difficult to obtain and wholesale prices are very dear.  Even so, these are actually below the current 2001 mine prices (these below we would theoretically list for $100+/ct if we re-stocked them with this year's production).

HEAT TREATED RUBIES:
These come from certain rubies that in the untreated state have a blue haze to them...treating at 1200C removes the haze and brings out the red/magenta color.
