Scapolite is usually either Golden Yellow or Violet/Purple.
The purple material is usually only found in Tanzania and in small sizes (the largest cut purple scapolite is 14.83cts! and anything over 5cts is considered RARE. The Golden Yellow material can be found in much larger sizes, although almost all larger stones will have a few long thin tubes running through them. In any case, Scapolite from Tanzania is usually quite clean and will cut fine gems (A barion type cut will look great on these gems). The purple stones when cut on the thin C-axis for the intense violet color look almost like Tanzanite. Scapolite rough is still priced quite well and is one of the few remaining good deals in gemstones today.
