GARNET-SPESSARTITE
Spessartite is one of the Garnets in the Pyralspite group, which includes Pyrope, Almandite, and Rhodolite.  Spessartite is the rarest form of garnet in the group being formed with Manganese in its molecular structure.  Spessartite is seldom found in its "pure" form - usually these garnets contain amounts of Almandite mixed in.  The purest forms of Spessartite will be pale orange in color.  The most desirable color  is orangy-Red, indicating the presence of Almandite (the addition of Almandite gives the gem more fiery sunset appearance).  When greater amounts of Almandite are present, the gem will be a more brownish-Red, which often occurs with the very large Spesartite garnets.  Spessartite cuts a truly fine gem that appraises nicely and looks terrific.  We are pleased to offer a limited supply of rough:

Please click the link below to see a color suite of cut Spessartites.  Note that the color moves from (1) a lighter/more yellowish-Orange to (5) an orangy-Red on the right.
(I personally enjoy the more pure orange colors, but the sunset-color stones are said to be the most desirable with their firery orange-red highlights.)

A few notes on the material below:
The rough below is associated with a color range in the picture above.  This is a best guess of what the rough below may look like when cut, but no guarantees...

The lighter the color / more "pure orange" the more likely the gem may have small light veils etc. - however the gems will usually cut eye-clean...just like the lighter ones in the picture.

The huge darker Spessartites being offered, despite the depth in color, still cut amazing and very clean gems for their size.  Yes, the color cuts much deeper orangy-Red but the gems still sparkle and are quite impressive.

This material usually sells out very quickly and we doubt more will be coming for a while.

Prices have increased unfortunately.  Very little of this top material is available  and we have been searching over 1 year for similar quality of material we previosly offered.  (Mine run prices have risen in some cases to our last year's selling price.)

These are rather rare "pure" Spessartite Garnets.  Note the much lighter yellow/pastel-Orange color.  These will cut some fine bright smaller gems.  Color would be a lighter shade of gem #1 in the picture.  These stones typically have a few inclusions / light veils seen at 10X but look eye clean.
These are from Mozambique (not Tanzania like most of our other Spessartites) and we got them out just before the floods...no more will be coming out anytime soon.

Sorry, these lots have been SOLD.
